Princess Anne to visit S'pore

Britain's Princess Anne will visit Jurong Port on Nov 3 as president of the Mission to Seafarers Singapore (MTSS) and patron of Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).

The royal visit will kick off with a horse display, after which RDA beneficiaries will be presented with rosettes by the 66-year-old princess, Queen Elizabeth's second child.

There will be a reception on board the Royal Albatross to celebrate the work by MTSS and RDA. Singer Paul Roberts will wrap up the event.

Orchard Road race for children

Orchard Road will be transformed into a winter wonderland this December, with about 5,000 children racing down the road in elf-inspired shirts and sporting reindeer antlers.

This 600m Kids Dash is organised by Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore and it will take place on Dec 3. The young runners will race from Ngee Ann City to the finish line at ION Orchard.

Ngee Ann Civic Plaza will host a Christmas carnival with activities such as face painting and hoop the snowman, festive performances by juggling elves and meet-and-greet sessions with Santa Claus.

Facelift for five hawker centres

Five hawker centres will undergo renovations this year and next year.

Renovation works are now going on at Block 347, Jurong East Avenue 1, and Block 453A, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. They are scheduled to be completed by next month.

Vacant market stalls are being demolished and wider passageways constructed, said the National Environment Agency.

Renovations are also scheduled for hawker centres at Block 69, Geylang Bahru; Block 163, Bukit Merah Central; and Block 84, Marine Parade Central.

Correction note: The story was corrected to say that Princess Anne will be visiting Jurong Port instead of Jurong Point.
