MediShield Life Dialogue session

The Singapore Press Holdings Chinese Media Group will be holding a MediShield Life Dialogue session in English on Friday.

The session, to be held from 12.30pm to 2pm at Chevron House in Raffles Place, aims to educate the public about MediShield Life and its benefits. Senior Minister of State for Health Amy Khor will be the guest of honour at the session.

Drunk cleaner stabs colleague

Unhappy with his colleague, an intoxicated 47-year-old cleaner stabbed him in the stomach with a knife, a court heard.

Yesterday, Yang Changchun was jailed for 15 months after he pleaded guilty to a charge of causing hurt using a weapon likely to cause death. A district court heard that Yang and the victim, Mr Zhang Yuekun, 45, both Chinese nationals, worked at the same cleaning company and lived in separate rooms at No. 14 Jalan Suka in Geylang.

Indonesian charged with rash act

An Indonesian national was charged with acting rashly and thus endangering the life of an elderly man last week. Ipah Saripah Adang Mastur, 34, whose occupation is not known, is accused of using a cushion to try and smother Mr Chia Hang Kwong, 85, for 20 seconds at about 9.30am on July 7 in a flat at Block 205 in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. The case will be mentioned again at a later date.

Swiss President in Singapore

Switzerland's President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann is here on a state visit till tomorrow at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

Mr Schneider-Ammann is on his first state visit to Singapore. Accompanied by senior officials and a business delegation, he will call on President Tan and have a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

He will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid will be named in his honour. He will also be delivering the keynote address at the Switzerland-Singapore Business Forum.
