Man gets probation for illegal racing

A full-time national serviceman who took part in a racing competition with another motorist, without a police permit, was given 12 months' supervised probation yesterday.

Jandej Gohwas 19 when he raced his mother's car- a black Mercedes C200 saloon- illegally with another man at 1.23am on July 26 last year along Seletar Link.

Under the probation order, he has to remain indoors from 11pm to 6am.He undertakes not to drive for 12 months, and has to perform 180 hours of community service. His parents signed a $5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour

Red Arrows flypast postponed to Saturday

The flypast of the Red Arrows, the aerobatic team of Britain's Royal Air Force, has been postponed after unexpected weather in the South Asian region. Originally scheduled to take place tomorrow, the flypast over Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay and Sentosa will now take place from around 12.30pm to about 1 pm on Saturday.

The Singapore stop is part of the team's visit to the Middle East and Asia in a campaign to showcase the best of Britain.

Where to exchange old parking coupons

New parking coupons that reflect the imminent increase in public carpark charges will go on sale from today.

Motorists can also exchange their old, unused parking coupons for the new ones by topping up the difference in value at locations across Singapore. The coupon exchange at the 131 participating petrol stations will be from Dec 1 to Jan 31, while it can be done from today at the 23 HDB branches and service centres.

From Dec 1, short-term parking charges for public carparks outside the Restricted Zone/Designated Area (RZ/DA) will be raised by $0.10 to $0.60 per half-hour. The parking charge will be raised by $0.20 to $1.20 per half-hour within the RZ/DA.
