Man arrested for online bomb threat

A 22-year-old man was arrested by the police for posting a threat on social media to bomb City Hall.

A report about the online post was made on Jan 14 at 12.36pm, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a press release yesterday.

Officers from Bedok division arrested a man shortly after they started investigations to establish the identity of the person who had posted the threat, SPF said.

It is believed that the suspect had posted the comments as a hoax.


Star lawyer to helm NUS law centre

Globally renowned arbitration lawyer Lucy Reed will join the National University of Singapore (NUS) in July as its director of the Centre for International Law (CIL).

The 63-year-old, who holds degrees from Brown University and Chicago Law School, has also been a partner at international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since 1998. The firm, headquartered in London, has 27 offices around the world.

Ms Reed, who resides in Singapore, has taught at the American University in Washington and the University of Miami School of Law.

She will succeed Associate Professor Robert Beckman who has led CIL since its founding in 2009.
