2 drug syndicates busted in one day

Two drug syndicates were busted in two operations carried out by the Central Narcotics Bureau on Monday.

One of the suspected syndicate leaders, a 38-year-old man, was arrested together with two suspected drug traffickers.

About 2.3kg of heroin, 72g of "Ice", 85g of cannabis and 13 Erimin-5 tablets, estimated to be worth more than $177,000, were seized in this operation.

Eight others were arrested and about 1.8kg of "Ice", valued at about $324,000, were seized in a separate operation on the same day.

Alexandra Hospital to reopen in phases

Alexandra Hospital, which has been closed for renovation since June, will reopen in phases from Aug 11.

It will start by taking in stable patients from other public hospitals who require a longer period of care . There will be no outpatient care or emergency department. The public should head for the Singapore General Hospital or the National University Hospital in an emergency.

Essential items for flood-hit in Myanmar

The Singapore Red Cross is donating US$100,000 (S$137,600) worth of relief items, including food, medicine, blankets and drinking water, to the victims of severe flooding in Myanmar. SRC is working with the Myanmar Red Cross to get the supplies to the victims later this week.
