17 schools to hold ballot exercises for P1 spots

Seventeen of the 22 schools that were oversubscribed at the close of the 2B registration phase will hold ballot exercises for Primary 1 vacancies tomorrow.

The schools include Anglo-Chinese School (Junior), Tao Nan School, Methodist Girls' School (Primary) and St Joseph's Institution Junior.

The remaining oversubscribed schools - Ai Tong School, Rulang Primary School, Anglo-Chinese School (Primary), Catholic High School and St Andrew's Junior School - will not need to conduct ballots.

St Andrew's will give preference to all Singapore citizens who applied, while the other four schools have just enough vacancies for those who are citizens and living within a 1km radius.

Man caught with 900g of cannabis at border

A 20-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at the Woodlands Checkpoint yesterday morning, after being found to be in possession of 900g of cannabis.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said the cannabis had a street value of about $29,000 and could have fed the addiction of about 128 cannabis abusers for a week.

Joint torpedo-firing exercise a success

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the United States Navy (USN) carried out a successful combined torpedo-firing exercise yesterday as part of the 21st Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (Carat) exercise.

The RSN's Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme, the Republic of Singapore Air Force's Sikorsky S-70B Seahawk naval helicopter and the USN's MH-60R Seahawk naval helicopter took part in this exercise, Mindef said in a statement.
