Fans of Hello Kitty were feline excited yesterday ahead of the opening of the cuddly cartoon character's first themed cafe in Singapore.

The Hello Kitty cafe at Changi Airport's Terminal 3 opened its doors at 11.30am but some customers got in line at 7am - some even dressing up to fit the theme.

Most were there early to get their hands on a limited-edition plush toy - only 500 are available - designed for Singapore. It cost $49.90 and customers were limited to two each.

The cafe is the world's first Hello Kitty-themed cafe to open 24/7, and is located at the public area of Terminal 3.

It also has a retail section that sells merchandise featuring the Sanrio character.
