SINGAPORE - Travellers can expect heavier traffic at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints this coming weekend due to Deepavali (Oct 29), the Immigrations and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) said in an advisory.

Heavy departure traffic is anticipated on Friday (Oct 28), while the same is expected of arrival traffic next Monday.

With security checks at the land checkpoints, ICA cautioned that traffic build-up is inevitable, advising travellers to adjust their travel plans to avoid a surge of people and vehicles seeking clearance.

It also reminded travellers to check and ensure the validity of their passports as well as ensure that it belongs to them, as previous cases of wrong or invalid passports have led to delays.

Passports that have been reported as lost are not permitted to be used for travelling even if they are found subsequently.

Motorists should check the traffic situation at both checkpoints before embarking on their journey.

Other tips by ICA include carpooling, maintaining lane discipline, ensuring that travellers do not bring unlawful or prohibited goods in or out of Singapore.
