SINGAPORE - Furniture store Ikea has issued a recall of its Gothem lamp bases, after they were found to have caused electric shocks.

The products have not been sold in Singapore. But customers who have purchased any of the three models of Gothem lamp bases - two table lamp bases and one floor lamp bases - from overseas can take the products to any store here and get a full refund. No proof of purchase is required.

"Ikea is recalling all Gothem floor and table lamp bases due to the risk of electric shock, after some examples of damaged cables in the lamp bases have been found," Ikea said in a statement on Thursday (March 17). "Damaged cables can lead to the metal body of the lamp base becoming electrically live and thereby being a safety hazard."

While no incidents have been reported in Singapore, Ikea has received reports from overseas from two customers and one store worker who have suffered electric shocks from the products.

"Safety is always a top priority for Ikea and we cannot accept the risk of any more incidents," Ikea added.
