SINGAPORE - After a year as deputy chief executive officer of the National University Hospital (NUH), Associate Professor Eugene Liu is stepping up to the plate as the new CEO.

Prof Liu has been with NUH for 19 years. An anaesthesia specialist, he previously chaired the hospital's anaesthesia department and implemented a system for specialist training in anaesthesia. He also oversaw the expansion of clinical services and revision of undergraduate teaching in anaesthesia at the hospital.

Prof Liu replaces Adjunct Associate Professor Joe Sim, who took office in 2009.

Prof Sim moves into the role of deputy chief executive of the National University Health System (NUHS), where he will work on improving the relationship between NUH and the community, such as expanding primary care networks and connecting better with community partners.

"We thank Joe for his stewardship of the hospital and his deep commitment to helping the hospital and NUHS, of which NUH is a key member, to advance our mission for patients and Singaporeans," said NUHS chief executive John Wong.
