Health-care workers must 'uphold values of respect': Health Ministry

SINGAPORE - Public health-care professionals, both local and foreign, are expected to uphold values of respect, professionalism, integrity and social responsibility, said the Health Ministry (MOH).

It was responding to the dismissal on Friday of a Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Filipino nurse whose Facebook comments targeting Singaporeans surfaced last week, angering many online.

In a statement today, MOH noted that it has been informed by TTSH of nurse Ello Ed Mundsel Bello's dismissal.

Mr Bello wrote that Singaporeans are "loosers" (losers), and that he was "praying that disators (disasters) will strike Singapore".

Mr Bello's comments "are incompatible with the standards of behaviour expected of hospital employees and are not representative of the values and behaviour exhibited by the rest of the public health-care community", the statement added.
