Freelance eco artist Cherie Ng Jia Yi (centre, in yellow), 24, decorating her artwork and mini float, Foodie Birdie, at Pasir Ris East Community Club last Saturday. The float, which measures 2.5m by 1.5m and is about 2m tall, features a hornbill whose wings are adorned with used bottle caps and expired wooden laminates. Residents were roped in to draw and paint food items on the laminates and to wrap fallen twigs, which make up the nest, with old T-shirts. Chingay50 mini floats, a collaboration between PAssionArts and Chingay, is part of PAssionArts' larger plans to groom community arts groups to be showcased on national platforms, while promoting arts in the community. Themed "Ignite Our Dreams", Chingay50 will be aired live online and on social media channels on Feb 12. ST PHOTO: KEVIN LIM
