The grand light-up for this year's edition of the Pongal festival in Serangoon Road yesterday. The festival, which starts on Thursday and runs for three days, is celebrated by farmers in India to give thanks for a year of bountiful harvest.

The traditional parade of cattle on the streets will not take place in Singapore, but visitors can pose at the colourful interactive photo booths at the Indian Heritage Centre featuring paintings of cattle and rice farming.
