THE Government is looking into setting up a body to deal with workplace disputes that do not violate the Employment Act.

Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin revealed this in Parliament on Monday in response to questions about the Nov 26 illegal strike by SMRT bus drivers over pay and living conditions.

Mr Tan said that this idea is being explored as part of an ongoing review of the Employment Act.

In response to Nominated MP Laurence Lien, Mr Tan said that those with non-statutory workplace disputes extend beyond local or foreign low-wage workers, to junior professionals, managers, executives and technicians.

He said that currently, most resort to the civil courts to seek redress. His ministry is exploring if an "intermediate body" can be set up to help these aggrieved workers, he added.
