For WKH Meets: Dr Ang Swee Chai, an orthopaedic surgeon who treated patients in war-torn Lebanon in the 1980s and co-founded Medical Aid for Palestinians in 1984. Now a British citizen, Dr Ang - whose late husband was political exile Francis Khoo, and who was the first female orthopaedic surgeon consultant appointed by St Bartholomews Hospital in London - was in town recently to receive the 2024 Fellow Award from the Harvard Club Sg. “I’d go back immediately if I can,” says the diminutive orthopaedic surgeon who has treated war victims under heavy bombardment in Lebanon as well as the occupied territories of Gaza and the West Bank for the past four decades.
