Free guided nature walks as part of Clean and Green campaign

Nature lovers will get a chance to sign up for free guided nature walks as part of this year's Clean and Green Campaign.

For a start, participants will get to walk through nature corridors in Yishun and Tampines next month but NParks says it will consider more tours if there is strong demand. This is the first time NParks is organising guided nature walks at the Yishun and Tampines nature corridors for the public.

Besides the walks, NParks has also roped in writer Neil Humphreys to pen a children's book titled Secrets of the Swamp on Singapore's native plants and animals. The book, targeted at primary school pupils, costs $16 and will be on sale at bookshops from Nov 1.

NParks chief executive Poon Hong Yuen said the free nature walks and books will "develop a greater public appreciation of Singapore's lush greenery and rich biodiversity, and encourage more Singaporeans to take ownership of our City in a Garden". NParks added that it plans to triple the current nature corridors - which it calls park connectors for birds and butterflies - from some 20km now to 60km by the end of 2015.
