Four new social service offices rolled out next year: Chan Chun Sing

Four new social service offices (SSOs) will be set up by June in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Queenstown and Seng Kang.

These locations were chosen because of the residents' needs, said Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing on Friday at the official opening of a SSO at Jalan Besar, where there is a large proportion of low-income and elderly residents.

The SSOs, which are run by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, will bring help closer to residents, and work with voluntary welfare organisations and community partners in their areas to provide more coordinated social services. Currently, there are seven such offices up and running.

Said Mr Chan: "We have gone into detail to see where are the people who need help, and where is convenient for them to seek help based on their travelling patterns so we have decided the next tranche will be at these four locations."
