Four Government Parliamentary Committees (GPC) will have new chairmen and deputy chairmen when Parliament re-opens on Friday, the People's Action Party said in a statement on Thursday.
The new appointees are currently already members of their respective GPCs. Two of the new chairmen had been deputy chairmen previously as well.
Ms Denise Phua, who will be Mayor of Central Singapore District on May 27, will replace Mr Seah Kian Peng as the chairman of the GPC for Social and Family Development. Ms Phua is an MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC. Taking over Ms Phua as deputy chairman is veteran MP Dr Lily Neo of Tanjong Pagar GRC.
Potong Pasir MP Sitoh Yih Pin takes over from Dr Lim Wee Kiak as chairman of the GPC for Defence and Foreign Affairs. Mr Sitoh's deputy will be Mr Alex Yam, an MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC.
Mr Liang Eng Hwa, an MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, will chair the GPC for Finance and Trade and Industry, taking over from Ms Jessica Tan. Replacing him as deputy chairman is Mr Ong Teng Koon, an MP for Sembawang GRC.
And with Dr Lam Pin Min joining the frontbench as Minister of State for Health on Aug 1, Dr Chia Shi-Lu, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, will be appointed chairman of the GPC for Health.
Dr Chia's deputy will be Ms Tin Pei Ling, an MP for Marine Parade GRC.
There will be no changes to the leadership of the seven other GPCs.
They are: communications and information (chairman Zaqy Mohamed, deputy Baey Yam Keng; culture, community and youth (chairman Baey Yam Keng, deputy David Ong); education (chairman Lim Biow Chuan, deputy Denise Phua), home affairs and law (chairman Hri Kumar Nair, deputy Edwin Tong); manpower (chairman Zainudin Nordin; deputy Christopher de Souza); national development and environment (chairman Lee Bee Wah, deputy Liang Eng Hwa) and transport (chairman Cedric Foo, deputy Seng Han Thong).
