Foreman jailed 2 months for throwing TV, injuring a worker in process

A foreman who threw a 14-inch television at a construction worker injuring the worker's thigh was jailed for two months on Monday.

A district court heard at about midnight on March 10 this year, Xu Guang Quan, 40, was upset when other workers shouted and asked him why he switched off the electricity to the dormitory in Punggol . Xu was then on the second storey. Instead of explaining that he was acting on instructions as the generator was going to be replaced, he threw the television set and a dustbin to the ground floor in anger.

Construction worker Appadurai Nagarajan, 30, was able to evade the dustbin but not the television which hit him on the thigh. He was treated for a swollen thigh at Changi General Hospital.

Xu pleaded guilty to causing hurt by doing a rash act that could endanger life. The Chinese national asked that only a fine be imposed. Speaking through the Mandarin interpreter, he said that if he was sent back to China, his wife would no longer be afford the costs of the treatment for her heart ailment. He added that he was "under a lot of pressure then".
