Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan meets US lawmakers, Trump adviser in Washington

Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan has met Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Senator, Congressman Joaquin Castro, Co-Chair of the Asean Congressional Caucus, and Mrs Dina Powell, Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategy in Washington during his working visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said.

During the meetings on Wednesday (June 7), the officials exchanged views on regional and international developments, and affirmed the strong and broad-based Singapore-US bilateral relationship, MFA said in a statement on Thursday.

Mr McCain and Ms Powell expressed the US' commitment to remain actively engaged in the region and to continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Dr Balakrishnan is on a working trip in Washington and New York from June 4-8.
