SINGAPORE - A firefighter from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sustained burns while fighting a fire at a scrap metal plant on Friday (June 8).

He was admitted to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and has since been discharged, the SCDF said in a Facebook post.

It was alerted to the fire at 6 Sungei Kadut Loop at 5.05pm and the blaze was under control at 7.30pm.

The fire involved the contents of a decommissioned 10m-long cylindrical heat exchanger.

In this case, water was not a suitable extinguishing medium so dry powder was to combat the fire.

Five water jets were used to prevent the fire from spreading, the SCDF added.

No other injuries were reported.
