SINGAPORE - A fire broke out in a manhole at the junction of High Street and Hill Street on Thursday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said no one was injured in the incident that happened at about 7.30am.

A spokesman for SP PowerGrid said that a gas leak was detected at the joint of a low-pressure pipe underground.

"The pipe is suspected to have been damaged," a spokesman said.

At 2pm, SCDF was still at the scene as a "precautionary measure", a spokesman said. The fire was extinguished with one foam jet.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
