A small fire broke out on Wednesday evening near the entrance of Jurong East MRT station.

A SMRT spokesman said a lifting machine parked at the ground floor of the station caught fire around 7.20pm.

A member of the public alerted the station manager who put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said no one was injured.
