A fire broke out at the Borneo Motors Toyota Car Bodycare Centre at around 11am on Friday.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at 11.09am and sent three red rhinos, two fire bikes, one fire engine and two support vehicles to the centre at Leng Kee Road. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes through the use of two water jets and compressed air foam.
The SCDF said they are still investigating the cause of the fire. The Straits Times understands however that the fire was caused by a short circuit in a spray paint oven, where cars are "baked" after being painted. Staff and clients were evacuated before the arrival of the police, and a few staff members stayed to use fire extinguishers to limit the fire before the arrival of assistance from SCDF.
A spokesperson from Borneo Motors said that this is the first time this has happened, and that damage was limited to the spray paint oven. There were no casualties from the fire.
