Mr Sim Tharn Chun - seen here with his wife Cathryn at the Yishun Community Hospital - fell critically ill last November, a few days after eating raw fish, and slipped into a coma for two weeks.

Yesterday, the 52-year-old was discharged after spending 40 days in hospital.

In the afternoon, the country manager at technology giant Honeywell went with his family to Causeway Point in Woodlands to watch The Force Awakens, a movie he promised he would watch with his son before school reopens.

His priorities, now that he has been discharged, are clear: "Eating, catching up on movies with my son, and being with the family during the festive period."
