Female teacher jailed one year for sex with student, 13

A primary school teacher was jailed for 12 months on Thursday for having sex with her 13-year-old student.

The 32-year-old married mother of three had admitted to two counts of sex with her pupil at Sembawang Park sometime in May 2011 and at her home on July 18 the same year.

Four other charges including one of committing an obscene act with a child were considered during her sentencing.

The court heard that the pair started their relationship around April when they went out for a movie at Northpoint shopping centre. They had sex the following month at a shelter in Sembawang Park.

A week later, they had sex at a staircase landing at an unknown block in Choa Chu Kang. In June, they decided to break up and ended up having sex "for the last time'' at the same staircase landing.

Before school re-opened, they patched up. After the first day of school, they went to a staircase landing in Yishun Ring Road where she performed oral sex on him.

A week later, the victim assaulted her in school after learning that she had taken two of his classmates out for lunch during the school holidays without him.

On July 19 - a day after they had sex at her home - she was asked by the principal to write a report about her and the victim. She could not sleep that night and confessed to her pastor the next day and then went to the police.

Her lawyer Ravinderpal Singh said she was depressed at the time and was sorry for what she did.

She could have been jailed for up to 10 years on each charge.
