One of the biggest tests as a father for Mr Ganesan Maniam, 52, was when his then seven-year-old son was bullied in school.

"I had a shock, I didn't know what to do when he came up to me and told me that some boys had pushed him and sprayed him and his sister with water on the school bus," said Mr Ganesan, a civil servant.
