Experts weighing in on the comments by Qatar Airways chief Akbar Al Baker say while parts of Jewel Changi Airport may bear some resemblance to elements of a new airport facility planned for Qatar's Hamad International Airport in Doha, the design elements have been around for some time, and have been applied around the world.

One example is Jewel's geometric-grid shell structure, said veteran urban planner Steven Choo.
