Singaporeans still prefer gas over electric stoves, market survey finds

Most people in Singapore prefer gas-operated stoves even though electric ones may be easier to use and clean, a new survey has found.

Market research firm GfK found that, between July last year and February this year, about eight in 10 of the nearly 12,000 stoves sold were gas-fuelled. Electric stoves made up the rest.

The firm had tracked retail sales in technical super stores and electrical chains here for the first time.

A GfK spokesman said: "Between gas and electric stoves, the former tend to be favoured as there is more instant and direct control of the heat to enable more uniform cooking."

GfK predicted that energy-saving stoves will get more attention from customers in the future due to the current emphasis on eco-friendly appliances.
