Short, thundery showers expected over Jubilee weekend

SINGAPORE - Take an umbrella along when you head out over the National Day long weekend.

Short thundery showers are likely on four to six days over the next two weeks, mostly in the late morning and early afternoon, the National Environment Agency(NEA) said on Friday.

This is due to strong solar heating of land areas, it added.

In particular, showers are likely to occur in the late morning and early afternoon of the Aug 7 to 10 - Jubilee weekend

Thundery showers with gusty winds - due to Sumatra squalls - are expected on two or three mornings. The latter half of the fortnight will see dry and warm conditions, with temperatures hitting 34 deg c.

A few slightly hazy days are expected, especially in the early morning, due to the accumulation of particulate matter under light wind conditions.

Most parts of Singapore received below-average rainfall in July, which was mostly dry and warm, the NEA said.

The rainfall for the first fortnight of August is likely to be near-normal.
