An engineering manager, who had commercial sex with a 17-year-old girl from China who was forced into prostitution in Singapore, was jailed for 12 weeks on Wednesday.
Nordin Mohamed Noor, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of paying the girl $100 for her sexual services at a lodging house in Geylang Road on May 23. A second similar charge was considered during his sentencing.
So far, 24 men have been charged with engaging in commercial sex with the Shandong province girl. Nordin is the 20th man to plead guilty and the 18th to be sentenced.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Stella Tan Wei Ling said that Nordin was in Geylang on May 23 when he saw the minor talking to a group of men at a traffic light junction. The minor later spoke to her pimp, Tang Huisheng, 37, after the group had walked away. When Nordin found out that the minor was a friend of Tang, he asked Tang for her age. He also asked the minor who used a hand signal of "two'' and "zero''.
The minor rejected him when he wanted to engage her services. Nordin walked to Lorong 18 Geylang Road when he saw Tang sitting at a coffeeshop. He joined him and asked where the minor was. Tang pointed in a direction of a nearby hotel and told Nordin to wait for a while. After some time, Tang called the minor and told her that he had secured a customer for her.
About half an hour later, the minor arrived and told Tang that she had earlier rejected Nordin. But Tang told her that Nordin had been waiting for a long time and that he had also negotiated a price of $100 with Nordin.
Tang was jailed six years last week for vice-related offences and abetting Nordin to have commercial sex with the minor. Nordin could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined.
