Energy efficient labels extended to more home appliances

Labelling schemes to show how much energy and water appliances consume and how efficient they are, will be extended to a wider range of gadgets.

From next year, television sets sold here must come with labels showing how energy-efficient they are, while clothes dryers and general lighting must meet minimum performance standards.

Second Minister for environment and water resources Ms Grace Fu made the announcement at the opening of the Eco-products International Fair on Thursday at Marina Bay Sands' conference centre.

Washing machines must also meet minimum one-tick water efficiency standards from next April, Ms Fu said. And to boost household recycling, there will be pilot 'Save-as-you-reduce' incentive programmes at Punggol, Bartley and Yuhua estates, said Ms Fu but did not give further details.
