For nearly 43 years, private driving instructor Ng Poh Woo was a calming presence seated beside thousands of budding drivers.

Ever since he first started giving driving lessons in an Austin Mini in 1978, Mr Ng, 75, has met his fair share of quirky students and experienced a couple of near misses.
