Elderly man killed in road accident at Jurong East

SINGAPORE - An elderly man was killed following a traffic accident involving an SMRT bus on Monday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident along Jurong East Street 32 at 11.57am, and dispatched an ambulance. Paramedics pronounced the male victim, who was 90 and known only as Mr Tan, dead at the scene. No other casualties were reported.

SMRT spokesman Patrick Nathan said the public transport operator is currently helping the traffic police with investigations.

He said: "We would like to express our deepest condolences to Mr Tan's family. We have contacted Mr Tan's family and will render assistance as best as we can during this very difficult time."
