Eight men arrested over rioting incident that left two injured

Eight men aged between 15 and 20 were arrested yesterday on Thursday for suspected involvement in rioting.

In a statement on Friday, the police said they were informed of a fight along Pasir Ris Street 21 at about 8.54pm on Thursday, and found two male victims injured upon arrival.

The victims were conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital, and all eight male suspects involved were arrested within 24 hours.

Investigations are still ongoing, but preliminary findings indicate the rioting took place over "a staring incident" between two groups of individuals.

If convicted of rioting, all eight face imprisonment of up to seven years and caning.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner How Kwang Hwee, said the police take "a serious view against lawless and violent behaviour in the public which affects the sense of safety and security in the community", and that anyone resorting to violence and riotous behaviour in public "shall be dealt with swiftly and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law".
