Mendaki award ceremonies

Six young people in various fields such as film and design will be presented with awards at two Mendaki events today to honour accomplishments by outstanding students in the academic and non-academic fields. The two events - the Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award and the Anugerah Mendaki Award presentation ceremonies - will be held at the Singapore Polytechnic auditorium and convention centre respectively.

Ukraine and Syria issues on the table

Foreign ministers from France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine will meet in Berlin today to come up with "concrete proposals" ahead of an October summit on ending the conflict in Ukraine, the French presidency said.

They are also likely to touch on the situation in Syria, according to a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry yesterday. This follows reports of Russian military action in Syria.

Red-hot EPL clash

The fiercest English Premier League rivalry resumes tonight as Manchester United host arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. With both sides having spent millions revamping their squads, this match is an early test of team cohesion. Both sides will be hoping that their key strikers - Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Liverpool's Christian Benteke - can conjure up a moment of brilliance to decide what is usually a tight affair.
