Having spent the past six years leading a school known for taking in the academically weakest students in Singapore, Mr Krishnan Aravinthan knows what it takes to motivate the children.

It takes perseverance and creativity on the part of the teachers and a lot of commitment by staff who go beyond the call of duty, he said in an interview with The Straits Times last month.
