SINGAPORE - The best way to inculcate good habits, such as carrying out simple acts of kindness, may be to start from young, and a picture book for pre-schoolers aims to do just that.

The 64-page picture book, titled The Little Things, was launched by advisers to Tampines grassroots organisations Desmond Choo and Cheng Li Hui on Saturday (Sept 30) afternoon.

The book contains illustrations of kind acts, such as sharing an umbrella with someone or holding the lift for a neighbour, using local food items like kaya toast, ice kachang and roti prata as the main characters. It will be shared with pre-schools in Tampines and made available at the Tampines Regional Library.

The book is part of a wider movement in Tampines, known as the Tampines Kindness Movement, which aims to foster a greater sense of community spirit, where people care for their neighbours and their environment.

At the book launch at Tampines Regional Library, Mr Choo, who is also adviser of the movement, said hopefully, children will be inspired to carry out little acts of kindness and even encourage their parents to do so.

"We truly believe that the simplest of acts will create a long and sustainable movement," he added. "Nothing beats having the youngest of our generation take the lead and spearhead this movement."
