While Education Minister Ong Ye Kung acknowledged last Wednesday that meritocracy is "in danger of becoming a dirty word", he called on Singaporeans not to lose faith in it.

There has been some debate recently on education's role in social mobility, amid concerns that meritocracy has further stratified society.
