Ms Cindy Tan's son began taking tuition last year for English and Chinese. He was just four years old.

Each class - which can include playing games, singing and other hands-on activities to help him grasp the basics - lasts at least one hour. Her seven-year-old daughter began tuition classes for both subjects two years ago.
