SINGAPORE - Former Raffles Girls' School (RGS) principal Carmee Lim has a scholarship named after her, in honour of her work in education.
On Tuesday, local education firm MindChamps and the Toa Payoh East Citizens' Consultative Committee launched the Mrs Carmee Lim Scholarship for needy students in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and the Central Singapore District.
Mrs Lim, who was principal of RGS from 1988 to 1999, was also a senior inspector of schools in the Ministry of Education and the founding executive director of the Academy of Principals.
Mrs Lim, who is mentor principal of MindChamps, presented the scholarships to 15 Primary 5 pupils on Tuesday at the company's headquarters at Toa Payoh HDB Hub. The total amount of scholarships came up to $250,000, which was fully funded by MindChamps.
The recipients will also take part in a range of MindChamp's programmes, starting in December this year. They will go through different programmes that will train them in areas such as life skills, study techniques, oral exams and the Primary School Leaving Examination. Their parents will also go through training in exam strategies.
The scholarship was the result of a meeting earlier this year between Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Zainudin Nordin and MindChamps founder David Chiem.
