E-bike riders using false number plates among those caught during LTA enforcement operations

LTA said it has seen an increase in offences involving obscured, improper, or false number plates on e-bikes from 2023 to 2024.

SINGAPORE – Riders using false number plates on their power-assisted bicycles – or e-bikes – were among those caught during Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement operations in April.
Active mobility enforcement officers detected 32 offences and impounded 14 non-compliant devices during the operations, LTA said in a Facebook post on May 21.
LTA has observed an increase in offences involving obscured, improper, or false number plates on e-bikes from 2023 to 2024, it said.
An e-bike rider using an obscured number plate was recently apprehended with the help of the National Delivery Champions Association, it added. Two other riders using false number plates were caught in a separate operation.
Offenders caught using false number plates may be fined up to $5,000 and jailed for up to one year for the first offence.
LTA also noted that riders have reported possible fraudulent use of their plate numbers.
