A spirited performance by the ZingO Festival Drum Group kicked off an eight-day cultural showcase at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre yesterday. The Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award - which recognises those who have helped advance Singapore Chinese culture - was given out for the first time last night by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu. Crosstalk veteran Han Lao Da won the individual award, while Siong Leng Musical Association - a group that has fused contemporary elements with traditional nanyin music - took the top spot in the organisation category
