SINGAPORE – A man was arrested for drink driving and driving while disqualified after a traffic accident past midnight on Sept 13.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident, which happened at the junction of Nicoll Highway and Sims Way, at about 1.45am that day.

The car had crashed into a traffic light pole at the junction after speeding off when Traffic Police officers, who were patrolling along Beach Road, had signalled for it to stop, police said.

Footage of the accident posted on the Singapore Roads Accident.com Facebook page shows a black car fully mounted on a pedestrian walkway and crashed into a traffic light pole at the junction.

The car is seen with a heavily damaged bumper, with its parts strewn across the ground and its driver side door left ajar.

The traffic light pole is also seen damaged and leaning at an angle, with one of its signal heads on the ground.

The 44-year-old driver was taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was also arrested, the authorities said.

Police investigations are ongoing.
