Dr Ameen Talib replaces Nizam Ismail as chairman of AMP research subsidiary

The board of directors of the Association of Muslim Professionals(AMP) subsidiary Centre for Research on Islamic and Malay Affairs (Rima) has elected Dr Ameen Talib, 50, as its new chairman.

Dr Ameen replaces Mr Nizam Ismail who resigned from AMP amid controversy last week. Rima said that Dr Ameen was unanimously elected following a board meeting on Monday.

Dr Talib has been a board member of Rima since last year, and is also on the board of AMP. He is Principal Consultant of Ameen Talib & Associates, and is the owner of Cafe Le Caire on Arab Street.

The current directors on the board of Rima are Dr Faizal Yahya, Dr Kamaludeen Mohamed Nasir, Mr Nur Azha Putra, Mr Sani Hamid and Dr Syed Muhd Khairudin Aljunied.

In the statement, Rima said: "The Board would like to express its appreciation to Mr Mohd Nizam Ismail for his services and contribution as Chairman of Rima during his tenure."

Dr Ameen's appointment is effective immediately.
