DPPs to be stationed at some Government agencies in pilot project

Deputy Public Prosecutors will be stationed in Government enforcement agencies such as the police as part of a pilot project which will start in the first half of this year.

This is to help bolster the investigative quality of significant cases, shorten the time suspects are held in remand and speed up the prosecution of cases.

For example, they will help investigating officers on issues like what evidence needs to be gathered and whether statements taken are enough to prosecute an individual.

Attorney-General Steven Chong spoke about this initiative at the opening of the legal year on Friday.
