DPM Teo meets Indonesian Coordinating Minister Wiranto

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean met Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto and hosted him to dinner in Singapore on Monday (Oct 10).

The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that DPM Teo and Mr Wiranto reaffirmed the close and longstanding bilateral relationship between Singapore and Indonesia, and renewed their personal ties and friendship over two decades.

Their ties date back to when both men were in the military. DPM Teo was Navy chief and Mr Wiranto, commander of Indonesia's armed forces.

They discussed means of strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of defence, counter-terrorism and cybersecurity, the statement added.

Mr Wiranto was in Singapore to attend the inaugural Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW). He was hosted to breakfast by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, and met Communications and Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim.

In his speech at SICW, Mr Wiranto underlined the importance of cooperation among Asean member states to fight cyber crime. He added that strengthening cyber security was a "joint responsibility".
