Unlike many of his peers, the farthest 19-year-old Desmond Lam has travelled to is Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Mr Lam has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare muscular disorder which causes his muscles to progressively degenerate and weaken. He was diagnosed when he was three.
