SINGAPORE - Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen will receive the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits in Paris later this month.

The Legion of Honour is given to civilians or military personnel, regardless of citizenship.

The Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday (Feb 14) that Dr Ng will receive the award after he attends this weekend's 54th Munich Security Conference in the German city.

It will bring together key foreign affairs and defence leaders from around the world.

At the conference, Dr Ng will speak on the topic "Bridging Troubled Waters - The South China Sea Dispute" on Feb 17 (Singapore time).

He will also talk about peace and security in Asia-Pacific at the 10th Munich Young Leaders Round Table on Feb 18 (Singapore time).

During his time in Munich, Dr Ng will also meet his foreign counterparts.

He is attending the annual conference for the seventh time.
