One unwed mother left her boyfriend who was cheating on her, another broke up with her abusive partner. Yet another said she was not ready to marry her baby's father, given the fragile state of their relationship.

Whatever their reasons, giving birth out of wedlock was not a decision taken lightly, the single mums interviewed by The Straits Times stressed.
